‘Rangers to sell Jack Butland after Ferguson reign’ – Fans rage after Motherwell
Rangers fans are furious with Jack Butland following another mistake from the goalkeeper during a 2-1 defeat to Motherwell on Saturday.
Butland has been a shadow of his former self at Rangers this season, making far too many mistakes in between the sticks, and it was no different at Ibrox on 1 March.
After recovering possession from a Motherwell set-piece, Butland attempted to roll the ball out to Cyriel Dessers, who gave the ball away, allowing the Steelmen another attempt on goal.
Dan Casey’s shot was straight at the goalkeeper, which should have allowed for an easy pick-up, but Butland instead spilt the ball into the path of Luke Armstrong, who slotted home.
Things went from bad to worse for Barry Ferguson when Tom Sparrow doubled Motherwell’s lead, though there was nothing the Gers’ shot-stopper could have done.
Cyriel Dessers grabbed a goal back in the second half, also having another ruled out for offside, but it was not enough for the Light Blues to salvage a point at Ibrox.
Rangers supporters fume at Jack Butland
This is not the first mistake made by Butland this season, but Philippe Clement remained positive about the former Man United man as his first choice.
Even with Liam Kelly waiting in the wings, Ferguson has followed suit, but he has kept just one clean sheet in his last nine appearances across all competitions. It is simple to see why fans are so frustrated.
The main issue with replacing a figure such as Butland is the amount of money it could take to bring a new ‘keeper to Ibrox, but that might be a possibility this summer.
A Rangers takeover is on the horizon, with the San Francisco 49ers marching forward with a deal at Ibrox, and this could potentially bring new, much-needed funds to Glasgow.

Supporters want a new goalkeeper at Ibrox this summer
Fans will be going blue in the face after aiming so much criticism at Butland this season, but until a change is made between the sticks, those voices will not be quieting down anytime soon.
One supporter has suggested that signing a new shot-stopper should be a “massive priority” once the transfer window opens, with another stating that Butland must leave Ibrox at the same time.
It may seem harsh for a player who was incredibly key for the Light Blues last season, especially in the Europa League until finally being knocked out by Benfica in the round of 16.
However, his current form is just not good enough and past performances only stay in fans’ minds for so long.
