Rangers told to sign Tom Heaton after Ibrox source’s reveal – ex-teammate

Rangers should consider a move for Man United’s Tom Heaton in their search for a new goalkeeper, according to Paul Robinson.

The ex-Spurs and England number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said his former Burnley teammate would be “an excellent option” for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side.

Sources have told this site (20 October) that the Gers are in the market for a proven shot-stopper ahead of the January transfer window.

Heaton, 36, has struggled for game time since moving to Old Trafford in July 2021.

The ex-Burnley and Aston Villa goalkeeper is into the final 12 months of his contract with the Red Devils.

Robinson is adamant Heaton would be a success at Ibrox.

“If they can get him out of Man United, Tom would be an excellent option,” he told Football Insider.

“Tom is somebody who has a lot of unfinished business. He got injured at Aston Villa and never won his place back because [Emiliano] Martinez came in.

“He has not been given a fair chance at Man United. I suspect promises have been made by previous managers and nothing has come to fruition.

“Tom is far better than being number three goalkeeper, no matter what club he is at. He is not at that stage of his career yet. He has so much to give.

“A move to a club like Rangers would be a very good move for him. It would be great for Rangers as well because he is a top-class goalkeeper. Tom is hungry. He would be a fantastic acquisition for any club.”

In other news, Hutton has claimed Rangers may have identified a replacement for Alfredo Morelos after source’s reveal.
