‘Rangers transfer outrage to dash hopes of Vaclav Cerny deal’

Rangers face the prospect of being left to rue their failures in the transfer market as they look to sign Vaclav Cerny on a permanent deal at the end of this season.

Having again fallen short in the battle with Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title, the club will be looking to lay the foundations to change that in the coming campaign.

Indeed, prospective new Rangers investors the 49ers Enterprise are already looking for new managers for the club, with Barry Ferguson only in interim charge until the summer.

Regardless of who is in the Ibrox dugout, a string of below-par performances have made it clear that the squad on the pitch will need to be strengthened once the window has opened.

Vaclav Cerny a clear priority

One permanent signing that everyone connected with Rangers will surely want to see completed is that of Vaclav Cerny.

The winger joined the Scottish giants on a season-long loan deal from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg back in the summer transfer window.

Since then, the Czech international has produced some outstanding performances for the club, while also contributing 18 goals and eight assists across all competitions.

As a result, Football Insider understands that Rangers prospective news owners would love to sign Cerny on a permanent deal once the market opens.

However, what happened at Ibrox last summer is going to be of little help to them as they look to make that deal happen.

Rangers struggled to raise funds through sales to reinvest

During last summer’s transfer window, the likes of Todd Cantwell, Sam Lammers, Ross McCrorie, Connor Goldson and Scott Wright were all sold by the Ibrox outfit.

However, many Rangers fans were furious when it emerged at the club’s AGM in December that they made just £800,000 from the sales of those five players combined.

It is now hard to imagine that being of much help to the club in this summer’s transfer window as they look to strengthen.

Had they been able to bring in the sort of funds fans felt they should have got for those individuals, there may have been more in the budget for them to spend now.

As it is, that lack of windfall means there will be less for them to work with as they look to invest, which may have implications for the signing of Cerny.

It is understood the 49ers are keen to sign up to six new players for Rangers in the summer as they look to push for the title next season.

But with less funds than they would’ve had if they managed to make more from last year’s meagre sales, that may mean they may not be able to shell out what’s needed to sign Cerny without missing out on other deals.

Should that be the case, decision-makers at Ibrox could find themselves with a difficult decision to make as they chase what would be a popular deal.

With that in mind, it may well be argued that the old regime at Rangers have done the potential new one few favours with their own business from around this time last year.
