Rangers TV pundit impressed as Van Bronckhorst confirms 'perfect' talks planned
Alan Hutton has insisted “perfect” talks between Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Steven Gerrard could help Rangers in the transition between managers.
The former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the new Ibrox boss would be able to pick the brains of Gerrard about his squad.
As quoted by the Daily Record at his press conference (22nd November), Van Bronckhorst confirmed he had been in contact via email with Gerrard and revealed he would hold more talks with the new Aston Villa boss “in the coming weeks”.
Van Bronckhorst was in the stands for Sunday’s 3-1 League Cup defeat to Hibernian.
Hutton suggested talking to his predecessor would be the “perfect” way for the Dutchman to know the ins and outs of his squad.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I think ultimately, you have to be your own manager. It has to be your ideas, your philosophy, your way of working going forward.

“Yes, in that transition period, if you want to know about somebody’s character, or what he thought about a certain situation, that’s fine. That’s perfect. That’s only going to help you.
“I think when it comes down to the proper decisions, that’s got to be Van Bronckhorst. It’s got to be him that makes those because you live and die by the sword.
“So if he’s going to change things, it has to be up to him, not up to Steven Gerrard.”
Van Bronckhorst will take charge of Rangers for the first time on Thursday with a Europa League tie against Sparta Prague.
His first league game in the dugout will be at Livingston on Sunday.
