Rangers TV pundit thrilled by Van Bronckhorst change after what he’s seen from McGregor
Alan Hutton has hailed Giovanni van Bronckhorst for reinstating Allan McGregor as the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper at Rangers.
The former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 39-year-old was not helped by the “chopping and changing” early in the season under Steven Gerrard.
McGregor has played every minute in the league under Van Bronckhorst so far.

In contrast, he started six of the Light Blues’ opening 12 Premiership fixtures as Gerrard rotated him with Jon McLaughlin.
Hutton insisted being the nailed on number one every week would only help McGregor reach the top of his game.
Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I think as a goalkeeper, it’s like any other position. He’s made some incredible saves throughout the season like he’s done his whole career.
“He’s going to have ups and downs. To be honest with you, I don’t think the chopping and changing at the start of the season helped him.
“I think, especially when you come to a certain age, you have to be playing, you have to be in that routine of playing week in, week out.
“If you’re chopping and changing, coming in and out, you can’t get to the level that you want to be at. I think we understand how he plays.
“He plays week in, week out, he gets to a level and he plays to a high level. So that’s where he has to be.
“Obviously he’s not the future at the moment, but he has still got a lot to give. You can see that with some of the saves that he’s making.”
McGregor has sat out just one Europa League game since Van Bronckhorst’s arrival.
He has kept seven clean sheets in his 20 appearances this season.
In other news, Hutton cites Joe Cole as “big” Rangers injury blow confirmed.
