Rangers will be thrilled to bag ‘£8m’ for Calvin Bassey as offer accepted – McAvennie
Frank McAvennie has suggested Rangers would be happy to get “£8million” for Calvin Bassey amid transfer advances from Ajax.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Celtic striker insists that Bassey is not “in the same stratosphere” as fellow left-backs Kieran Tierney and Andy Robertson.
On Saturday (16 July), this site revealed that Rangers are in advanced talks with Ajax over the 22-year-old.
The BBC reported (16 July) that the Ibrox club have accepted a £20m bid for the Nigerian international, who has two years left on his contract with the Glasgow club.
But McAvennie claimed Rangers would be lucky to get £8m for the defender.
“I’ve heard all the rumours again, it’s not going to happen.” he told Football Insider.
“He’s a good talent, but he’s not consistent. For me, he only played ten good games. I just don’t get it. Could he do it in the premiership, I’m not so sure.

“To pay £20million for a left back, he’s not in the same stratosphere as Kieran Tierney, he’s not in the same league. Him and Andy Robertson are different from Bassey. Can he do what these boys do and create chance after chance after chance? Bassey doesn’t do that.
“He’s a good talent, I think if they got £8million they’d bite the hand off him. He’s not consistent enough for me for teams watching from the Premier League.“
In other news, a pundit has suggested Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos may be quitting Rangers for £70,000-a-week deals after confirmed talks.
