The news that Steven Naismith is close to returning to Scotland to join Hearts on-loan until the end of the season, is of some interest to Rangers fans.
The Daily Record has reported that a deal has been agreed for the forward to move to Tynecastle.
For a start, the Scotland international seemed desperate to rejoin the club he left in 2012, going as far as to say he would ‘play for free’ for the Ibrox club.
It looks like the move Naismith wanted isn’t going to happen though, as the player looks to be headed to Tynecastle.
The move shouldn’t cause Rangers fans any sleepless nights, as even though the former Scotland international has been an excellent player in his career, there is no guarantee he would get into the Light Blues side.
It is highly unlikely he would replace the likes of top goalscorer Alfredo Morelos or new signings Jamie Murphy or Jason Cummings. He would have been a good squad player for sure, who would start the occasional game.
There is also the issue of Naismith’s departure from Rangers after the club went into liquidation in 2012, and many fans have not forgiven him for the comments that he made.
Naismith will no doubt go on to do a good job for Hearts, but the time didn’t seem right for his return to Ibrox.
