Paul Robinson is adamant Rangers are working hard on tying Connor Goldson down to a new deal.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England goalkeeper said the 28-year-old has been ‘phenomenal’ this season and deserves to be rewarded with a fresh contract.
Goldson has been ever-present for Steven Gerrard’s side in all competitions this season, racking up an incredible 50 appearances already.
The centre-half will have just one year left on his current contract come the end of May, having penned a four-year deal upon his arrival from Brighton in June 2018.
The Gers last week announced that club captain James Tavernier had joined Allan McGregor and Steven Davis in agreeing new terms at Ibrox.
Robinson, who is friends with and a former teammate of Rangers boss Steven Gerrard, believes Goldson and Defoe will be next in line.
“I think Connor Goldson will be the one they are working hard on now,” he told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“He definitely deserves a new contract, he has been phenomenal up there this season.
“Most of that squad deserve to be rewarded with a new deal after what they have achieved this year.
“We still do not know what is happening with Jermain Defoe, that will be an interesting one because I am sure he would have the opportunity to go into the coaching staff up there but perhaps he wants to play for another year or so.
“I am sure there will be a few more new contracts dished out at Rangers over the next couple of months.”
