Rashford embarrasses ’90 year old’ Tarkowski as Everton blasted at Man United

James Tarkowski was made to look as if he was “90 years old” by Marcus Rashford when Man United scored their third in thrashing Everton 4-0, according to Dean Ashton.

The incident took place when Everton lumped the ball forward straight from the second-half kick-off at Old Trafford, and it was headed back into the midfield area. The ball was played up to Joshua Zirkzee, who flicked it round the corner for Amad Diallo on the right.

With acres of space to run into Diallo slotted a pass through for Rashford, who ran across the lumbering Toffees centre-back Tarkowksi and fired the ball straight past Jordan Pickford as Ashton blasted the “pitiful” play from Sean Dyche’s side.

Speaking live on Sky Sports News (1 December, 14:39) he said: “Everton’s defending is just pitiful for the third goal. Zirkzee was really clever in the way he reversed it to Amad. Tarkowski looked about 90 years old. He let Rashford run across him. It’s the easiest goal Manchester United will ever create and score.”

Former Everton winger Pat Nevin was full of praise for Rashford on BBC Radio 5 Live (14:35), “That is Marcus Rashford at his very very best. His speed is stunning. He flies through, it’s only 20 seconds from the start of the second-half. Superb run, great timing and a calm finish.”

Zirkzee and Rashford each scored twice in the match, and with the win the Red and White Army moved up to ninth in the league and four points of the top four, securing their biggest league victory margin so far this season.

The result leaves the Toffees 15th in the league, just two points above the relegation zone, as sack pressure continues to mount on manager Dyche.

Everton
Sean Dyche could be in big trouble at Everton on the evidence from Old Trafford.

Rashford, 27, has flourished under Ruben Amorim at Man United, showcasing the form and versatility that made him one of the Premier League’s most dangerous players during the 2022/23 season.

The England international made an immediate impact in the Portuguese managers tenure, scoring just 81 seconds into his first match against Ipswich while playing as a centre-forward. He added a double against Everton in today’s game, playing in a narrow attacking midfield role in Amorim’s 3-4-2 formation.

His pace, strength, and ability to run at defenders have been key features of his game under the new manager. His link-up play with Amad, who has been deployed as a wing-back, has been particularly impressive, with the two combining effectively in attack.
