Arsenal icon Ray Parlour believes that a host of clubs will be scrambling to sign someone like Tottenham ace Harry Winks in the upcoming January transfer window.
Winks, 21, has been in top form as of late for Spurs and was rewarded with a debut cap for England on Sunday when he played in the 1-0 win over Lithuania, pulling the strings in the heart of Gareth Southgate’s midfield.
Fans and pundits alike have been raving about the playmaker since and it has recently been reported by the Times that Spurs are going to hand him a new contract, doubling his wages to £40,000-a-week.
Now, Parlour believes that many teams will be looking to get a Winks of their own when the transfer window re-opens in a few months’ time.
“It’s a squad game these days, you need big squads, and I am sure that’s one player they don’t want to lose, Spurs,” he said on TalkSport’s Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast Show on Tuesday morning.
“If the transfer window comes open, lots of clubs would love to have someone like Harry Winks and play him every week, but Spurs need to keep him as well.”
Winks has been picked by Mauricio Pochettino to start Spurs’ last two fixtures against Huddersfield and APOEL Nicosia despite playing more of a squad role beforehand.
Injuries to Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele have no doubt helped the fresh England international move up the pecking order in North London, and the real challenge for him now will be to keep hold of his spot when the duo returns.
