Reading in late move for Coventry City’s Fabio Tavares – sources

Reading are trying to sign Coventry City striker Fabio Tavares before the close of the transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The 23-year-old finds himself down the pecking order at Coventry, and League One Reading are hoping to land the versatile attacker on loan.

The Royals want to bolster their attacking options for the rest of the season by making a late signing.

Tavares has yet to make an appearance for Coventry in the Championship this season, playing only 63 minutes in the EFL Cup so far.

The young striker hasn’t even been in the match-day squad for Coventry’s past two Championship matches.

Tavares is out of contract with Coventry next summer and will be available as a free agent unless a new deal is agreed upon.

Tavares struggled for game time last season at the Coventry Building Society Arena, only featuring five times in the Championship.

The striker played 10 times in all competitions during the 2023-24 campaign, scoring three goals and providing two assists.

He does boast experience in League One from his spell with Rochdale, during which he made 26 appearances in the third division.
