Rodgers delivers verdict on who may be No 1 Celtic striker if Dembele leaves
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has refused to guarantee that Leigh Griffiths will be the number one striker at the club should Moussa Dembele leave in the January transfer window.
On-loan striker Odsonne Edouard started the game against Partick, with both Griffiths and Dembele on the bench with the Scotland international coming on to score the winning goal in the Bhoys’ 2-1 victory.
After the game Rodgers insisted that he would decide who gets the nod up-front.
“It doesn’t matter, it really doesn’t matter. I think over what 76 domestic games we have done okay picking what we think is the best team,” he said when asked who would be the main striker, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“I thought when Leigh came on he was excellent. I thought young Odsonne was very, very good this evening as well playing through the middle and then coming in behind.”
Edouard has started both of the Hoops’ matches since the return from the winter break, the 20-year-old, who is on-loan from PSG until the end of the season, has scored five goals so far this season.
Griffiths, who has struggled with injury and a loss of form, is on 11 goals for the season following his winning goal against Partick.
The out-of-favour Moussa Dembele only has nine goals so far this season, as the top scorers for Celtic this season have been wingers Scott Sinclair and James Forrest.
It will be interesting to see who Brendan Rodgers selects as the Hoops’ striker for the upcoming league match against Hibs at Celtic Park on Saturday.
