Jamie Murphy delivers verdict on first Rangers goal, highlights iconic due he idolises

Rangers winger Jamie Murphy has admitted it was “really special” to score his first Ibrox goal for the Gers after growing up watching the likes of iconic duo Paul Gascoigne and Brian Laudrup light up the pitch.
The winger made it three goals in three games as he followed up strikes away to Ayr United and Hamilton with a sensational run before slotting beyond Jon McLaughlin to make it 1-0.
The boyhood Rangers fan admitted he had dreamed of scoring at Ibrox as a youngster and revealed he was “delighted” to have fulfilled his dream.
“It was really special to score. We’ve had great support at every game, away games too,” Murphy said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“But it was good to score in front of the fans at home. I couldn’t get a clean shot away so I was trying to wait till that happened. I was lucky it went in. You do dream of goals when you’re younger and watching the team.
“You don’t dream of scoring goals from half a yard that hit off you and go in. You dream of scoring good goals. I’m delighted either way, whether it was a scuff or a good finish. I’ll take it.
“There has been many a great player over the years to have scored here. Brian Laudrup was my biggest hero. Paul Gascoigne was another. But Laudrup was the first person I remember starting to watch and admire.
“It’s special to follow in their footsteps. I’m lucky enough to be playing here and doing well.”
Murphy joined the Gers on loan from Brighton last month with an agreement to make his move permanent in the summer.
The former Motherwell star had been a key player in Brighton’s promotion push last season but found himself sidelined after the Seagulls reached the Premier League and heavily invested in new talent.
The 28-year-old has made eight appearances for the Gers since arriving on loan, scoring three times and contributing five assists.
In other Rangers news, controversial TalkSport host Adrian Durham has claimed that this key Celtic man must quit Parkhead at the end of the season because of the Light Blues.
