Redknapp makes bold statement about Tottenham, fans will be thrilled
By Amir Mir
Harry Redknapp has made a bold statement about the Tottenham starting XI by stating he wouldn’t swap it for Chelsea’s.
Antonio Conte’s side sit top of the Premier League table, leading their London counterparts by ten points after 25 games.
Formers Spurs boss Redknapp went on to add that had the likes of Harry Kane, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld not got injured at key times this term then they would be on Chelsea’s “coat tails”.
Nonetheless, the White Hart Lane will be thrilled with Redknapp’s comments considering where Conte’s side are in the table and the high profile players they have amongst their ranks.
Here is Redknapp making the comments about his former club as he explained how injuries have affected their title challenge.
“I wouldn’t swap Tottenham’s starting 11 for Chelsea’s,” Redknapp told the Daily Star. “Maybe Chelsea have got a bit more strength and more depth slightly all round.
“But as a starting 11, if you said: ‘manage one of those two teams which do you want?; I’d pick Tottenham.
“The problem with Tottenham is they lost key players – they lost Harry Kane for a while, They’ve lost the centre-halves at different times. Both Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld have been injured.
“I think if they’d have kept their team together they’d be right on Chelsea’s coat-tails now.”
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are currently sitting in third place on 50 points from their 25 games this season, two points ahead of sixth-placed Manchester United.
The north London club were knocked out of the Europa League on Thursday night when Belgian side Gent secured a 2-2 draw at Wembley.
As a result, Pochettino’s side were beaten 3-2 on aggregate as Gent join Manchester United in the last 16 of the European Cup competition.
Now, they will focus their attention to domestic matters with Mark Hughes’ Stoke visiting White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.
