Harry Redknapp claims Dimitri Payet has to leave West Ham but he won’t be a huge loss as there have been “hundreds of better players turn out for” West Ham.
The former West Ham manager and player hit out at suggestions Payet would be a massive loss to the club because he is considered by many to be one of their most talented players ever.
Redknapp claimed Bobby Moore and Mark Noble should be considered above Payet despite the Frenchman earning a nomination for the Ballon D’or last season.
Speaking on Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast show on TalkSPORT, Redknapp criticised Payet heavily.
“He [Payet] has got to go. He isn’t the best player, they’ve had hundreds of better players turn out for them. People like Bobby Moore, people who have played for the clubs all their lives,” said Redknapp.
“And Mark Noble is a real West Ham boy, but these other lads they go after a couple of years.”
Redknapp’s comments came after it was revealed Payet no longer wants to play for the club and he is seeking a move back to France to join his former club Marseille in the January transfer window.
It came as a huge bombshell when Slaven Bilic revealed the news in a press conference and Redknapp is one of a number of pundits and former players who have spoken out in disbelief.
Payet has scored two goals and provided six assists in 18 Premier League appearances for the Hammers this season but they are struggling to reproduce the same kind of form they showed throughout the 2015-16 campaign.
He only recently signed a new five-year deal with the club but appears to have regretted his decision and it has caused a stir among fans.
In other West Ham news, Noble revealed this about Payet.
