Reece James sends six-word message to Lauren James after two Chelsea deals agreed

Reece James has sent a message to his sister Lauren James, after the pair both signed new Chelsea contracts on Friday.

The former has agreed on new terms which will see him remain under contract at Stamford Bridge until at least 2032.

The right-back has been in fine form this season, and has looked to have shaken off some of the injury issues that plagued him in the last campaign.

James’ new contract will reportedly bring him in line with the incentivised wage structure implemented by the current owners at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s transfer plans have been centred around this model, which sees a lower base wage paid in turn for bigger bonuses for individual and team achievements.

Reece James messages Lauren James

Former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider last week that Chelsea should have agreed a shirt sponsor for next season, in just the latest error by Blueco.

The group have been slammed repeatedly for a whole host of poor decisions made during their time since arriving at Stamford Bridge.

They cannot be criticised for their ability to agree new contracts for their star players, however.

The James siblings are the latest pair, with the sister just as important a cog for Chelsea Women as the brother is for Liam Rosenior’s team.

The 24-year-old has struggled with injury issues in recent years, but remains among the brightest talents England has to offer.

The 2023-24 season, her highlight campaign, saw James score 13 goals and provide two assists in just 16 appearances in the Women’s Super League, which she has won four times.

Her new contract will run to 2030, and comes ahead of Sunday’s Women’s League Cup final against Manchester United.

Reacting to his sister’s new contract, James took to his Instagram story and wrote: “congrats my g, so happy for you”.

What James said after contract extension

James’ previous deal was due to expire in 2028, but there was never any doubt about his desire to remain at Chelsea.

The defender has been with the club since the age of six, and is keen to strive towards more trophies at Stamford Bridge.

“This club is my home, this is the place I love and want to be,” he told the media on Friday.

“Could I get more money elsewhere? Maybe, but money is not the be-all and end-all. Happiness and where I want to be means more to me. I want to win here – and we will win here.’
