Reece Oxford posts West Ham Twitter message after landmark day

Reece Oxford has revealed his delight on Twitter after agreeing a new contract with West Ham on his 18th birthday.

The bright prospect signed a new four-and-a-half-year deal with the Hammers on Friday morning with his previous contract set to expire in 2019.

The young defender’s future with the east London club had been in doubt since the summer with the player reportedly unhappy with his lack of pitch time.

This sparked interest from Manchester City and Manchester United, but the struggling Hammers have managed to retain the England Under-20 international.

Former Tottenham youth player Oxford was clearly delighted that his future is now settled with West Ham, posting on his personal Twitter account “what a day”.

Oxford made his competitive debut for the club in July 2015, starting in midfield in the Europa League first qualifying round against FC Lusitanos.

However, it wasn’t until his Premier League debut that fans took notice of him, as he managed to keep highly rated attacker Mesut Ozil quiet in a 2-0 victory over Arsenal.

He has played 16 matches for the senior Hammers side in total with just two coming this season.

He will now be looking to push on and see more pitch time with his future now settled at the team currently in 15th in the Premier League.

In other West Ham news, manager Bilic has made an emphatic decision on the future of this 25-year-old.
