Noel Whelan has lauded Alfredo Morelos after his match-winning cameo for Rangers against Lech Poznan.
The former Leeds and Aberdeen striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, has insisted that the 24-year-old is “doing everything right” despite not being picked among the starting XI by Steven Gerrard.
Morelos, who was rested completely for the win over Livingston, came off the bench on Thursday to score the only goal of the match and make it two wins from two in the Europa League for the Gers.
Steven Gerrard has rotated between his four strikers this season, although injury has forced his hand at times.
Whelan insists that Morelos is doing all he can to put himself in the reckoning for a place among the starting XI at Ibrox.
Whelan told Football Insider: “Look, he’s doing everything right at the minute.
“He might not be starting games but in Europe he’s getting out there, doing his job and putting that thought back into Steven Gerrard’s head, that competition for places.
“He’s doing everything that he needs to do for Glasgow Rangers. That seems to go for everyone at the minute, they just seem to be relentless.”
Morelos has started 11 times in his 14 appearances for the Glasgow giants this season, with six goals and four assists under his belt.
He has the likes of Kemar Roofe and Jermain Defoe, who led the line against Poznan and Livingston respectively, for competition in attack.
