It is thought that the French international forward is moving to Chelseas as makeweight so that Arsenal can sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, leading to Michy Batshuayi heading to Dortmund.
Giroud fits Chelsea’s style of play, and would serve as a good replacement for Alvaro Morata with his aerial dominance.
The 31-year-old has found first team football hard to come by since the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette, and the opportunity to play is more frequent at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea only have one out and out striker, should Batshuayi leave.
Football Insider verdict:
Olivier Giroud has been a wonderful servant for Arsenal, and has dominated at times. The French striker has had to feature mostly from the bench of late, but made a habit of scoring crucial goals in the dying minutes. Chelsea are inheriting one of the Premier League’s most dangerous aerial threats, as the lions share of Giroud’s Arsenal goals have come from headers. The transfer triangle that sees the three strikers swapping clubs is fascinating, and each club is getting a suitable replacement. Giroud will bring with him a natural goal scoring ability, and his direct playing style compliments the attacking options Antonio Conte already has at Chelsea.
In other Arsenal transfer news, it has been reported that Celtic are considering a move for this 25-year-old Gunners star.
