Aston Villa are watching Bristol City left-back Joe Bryan who has been linked with a summer switch away from Ashton Gate, according to a reliable journalist.

Alan Nixon, The Sun journalist, made the claim on his official Twitter page, detailing that promotion to the Premier League would increase their chances of landing the highly-rated 24-year-old.

Only last summer, the defender was part of a double bid, along with Aden Flint, from Birmingham City, but the Robins manager Lee Johnson rejected their advances and branded their offer ‘derisory.’

He’s had another fantastic season, making 35 appearances in the Championship and his form has put him on the radar of Premier League clubs too.

Both Everton and Newcastle have been linked with the full-back who is rated at £7million, according to the Mirror.

Football Insider verdict:

Neil Taylor currently holds the left-back spot but beyond the Welsh international there is not a wealth of quality options for Steve Bruce to turn to should injury strike the 29-year-old. If Bruce decides to make his move for the 24-year-old full-back he will have to move quickly to see off Premier League duo Everton and Newcastle who may seem a tastier prospect for the Bristol player if Villa fail in their quest for promotion. Unless the Claret and Blues can earn Premier League status, they can probably forget signing Bryan.
