Reliable journalist details development in reported PL pursuit of Celtic forward

By Danny Wright

Premier League club West Brom are not in pursuit of Celtic forward Leigh Griffiths, according to a reliable journalist.

Express and Star reporter Matt Wilson claimed on his personal Twitter account on Monday that a report from the Daily Record which said the Baggies were keen on the 26-year-old is wide of the mark.

Wilson has reported in a development that “there is no interest in Leigh Griffiths” from Tony Pulis’ side, who are thought to be looking for attacking reinforcements ahead of next season.

The Daily Record has also claimed that Newcastle are interested in Griffiths, who scored two free-kicks in Scotland’s courageous 2-2 draw with England in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday.

West Brom have very limited options up front with just Salomon Rondon and Hal Robson-Kanu listed as traditional strikers in Pulis’ squad.

Controversial forward Saido Berahino was flogged to Stoke in January, leaving the Baggies short of goals in attacking areas, with defenders collectively scoring more than Rondon or Robson-Kanu.

Griffiths has no such problems in finding the net with Celtic.

He scored 18 goals in 38 appearances across all competitions for the Hoops this term, helping Brendan Rodgers’ side secure the domestic treble without a defeat.

Football Insider Verdict

This is no doubt great news for Celtic fans, who ought to be desperate to see Rodgers keep hold of his best players this summer. Griffiths is not quite on the same level as Moussa Dembele, but he has still proven that he is the best Scottish striker playing in the Premiership at the moment thanks to his goal and assist record. West Brom need to sign a new forward this summer though. Although ex-Wolves man Griffiths appears to be out the equation, they need someone to improve on Rondon, who has simply failed to deliver the good in his two seasons in the Black Country.

In other Celtic news, Kieran Tierney has said he has been on the phone to this player, trying to force him to move to Parkhead.
