In a shock twist, Manchester City are officially out of the race to sign Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez, according to a reliable journalist.
Shane Burns, who works as a freelance covering Manchester City, released the news via his official Twitter account this evening:
It had widely been reported that City was going to be Sanchez’s next destination, after Wenger failed to secure the Chilean international to another contract.
However, a late move by Manchester United has seen the tables turned, and now the Arsenal forward appears to be headed to Old Trafford to play under Mourinho.
Burns reports that the cost involved in bringing Alexis Sanchez to the Etihad had grown too large, whereas in the Summer there was a cheaper deal in place.
Football Insider verdict:
With Manchester City out of the race, it seems a sure fire bet that Alexis Sanchez will be playing at Old Trafford in the near future. Arsene Wenger has failed monumentally by allowing the Chilean international to leave, potentially by means of a free transfer, and must now look to extend Mesut Ozil’s contract. This deal could be done in January, but if not Sanchez will be allowed to join his future team mates come the Summer when his contract runs out.
In other Arsenal transfer news, it has been reported that the Gunners are offering one of their strikers as makeweight to secure this European ace.
