Reliable journalist: Premier League side 'very keen' on Leeds 26-year-old

By Harvey Byrne

Premier League outfit Southampton are “very keen” to sign Leeds centre-back Pontus Jansson, according to a reliable journalist.

The Sun’s transfer expert Alan Nixon has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the Saints are highly interested in the Yorkshire giants’ 26-year-old, who has proven to be a colossus at the back this season.

The Sweden international was unknown in England as he completed a loan move to Leeds from Serie A side Torino in the summer.

However, he impressed many in his first few months at the club and Garry Monk made the decision to tie him up to a permanent £3.5million deal which will officially take place when his loan deal expires in the summer.

With 31 league appearances for Leeds this season he has built up a formidable partnership with fellow loanee Kyle Bartley in the back four.

The duo have been key to the Yorkshire club’s high fifth placing and Leeds fans will be hoping that both players line-up in their colours next season no matter what division they are playing in.

However, the Saints could come in with a lot of money for the Yorkshire based side depending on if they sell centre-back star Virgil van Dijk in the coming months.

Football Insider verdict:

It is an absolute must that Leeds keep hold of Jansson in the summer. The 26-year-old has been key for the club this campaign and has helped strengthen what was a weak back four at the the club. The Sweden international is certainly good enough for the Premier League, but the Yorkshire giants must now make a decision on whether they want to keep him and have them in the top-flight themselves or make some money on him while his value is still high.

In other Leeds transfer news, the Whites are also said to be “very keen” on this Premier league attacker.
