Reliable journalist: Striker receives international clearance to play for Newcastle
By Danny Wright
Tyrique Bartlett has received international clearance to play for Newcastle, according to a reliable journalist.
Chief football writer of the Newcastle Chronicle Lee Ryder claimed on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday that the teenager is now eligible to play for the Magpies first-team after joining up with the club’s youth squad earlier this year.
“Newcastle youngster Tyrique Bartlett has received international clearance to play for the club,” said Ryder.
The Chronicle reported in January that Bartlett had agreed a three-year deal with the Magpies after a successful trial period on Tyneside which saw him feature in the 7-0 thrashing of Burnley’s Under-23s side in December.
He hasn’t been able to play in any competitive fixtures until now, but scored his first goal for Newcastle in a friendly loss against Scottish Premiership outfit Kilmarnock in January.
The highly-rated youngster had been playing in South Africa for University of Pretoria’s youth team before his switch to the north-east.
Bartlett, who was born in Switzerland, is the son of former Chartlon and South Africa star Shaun Bartlett.
Football Insider Verdict
Newcastle’s youth team appears to have gotten stronger now that Tyrique Bartlett is able to play for them. If he’s going to have a career similar to his father’s, he could well be a star of the future for the Tynesiders, but he might be worried by the lack of action that the club’s current youngsters have got in the first-team. Adam Armstrong and Freddie Woodman are both good examples of players who have the potential to play in the senior squad but have been sent out on loan rather than get the opportunity to play for Rafa Benitez. Either way, Bartlett could represent a good re-sale value in the future if he reaches his potential ability.
