West Ham have been exploring a last-gasp summer swoop for Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, according to a reliable journalist.
The Hammers have long been linked with bringing in Sporting Lisbon’s midfield enforcer William Carvalho and the Mirror claimed on Tuesday that the east Londoners had put out an ultimatum to the Portuguese giants.
However, they could now be seeking alternate targets and Bleacher Report transfer expert Dean Jones has claimed via his official Twitter account on Wednesday that West Ham have been looking at the 24-year-old Barcelona playmaker.
But, he also stated that wages could present an obstacle.

Gomes has been at Barcelona for just one year after making the switch from Valencia for a massive £50.7million, including add-ons.
He was a mainstay in the Barca team in the last campaign, playing a massive 47 times in all competitions, returning three goals and three assists.
However, he has been limited to just one Supercopa outing for the Nou Camp club this season and he could be heading for an early exit from the Spanish club.
Football Insider verdict:
Gomes would be a huge coup for West Ham and would be an even better signing for the club than Carvalho. Only last summer was the 25-time capped Portugal international rated one of the best midfielder’s in Europe and that prompted Barcelona into shelling out a huge amount of money for him. Gomes could be the signing to take West Ham to the next level and if he was to be unveiled in a Hammers shirt before Thursday’s transfer deadline then supporters will surely be ecstatic.
