‘Remarkable’ – Exclusive: Whelan in awe of Radrizzani after new Leeds report
Noel Whelan has hailed Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani for his “remarkable” transformation of the club in recent times.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Elland Road man claimed that the Italian businessman has been a “massive plus” for the Whites since taking the helm.
A report from the Daily Mail suggested earlier in the week that a number of Championship sides face the possibility of punitive actions next season for breaking Financial Fair Play regulations this term, but claim that United are not one of the sides in jeopardy.
And Whelan has claimed that it serves as a reflection of Radrizzani’s talent in the boardroom.
“I think the first thing is that the club are in a better state since he took over at Leeds United,” he told Football Insider.
“He’s done things the right way, and when you look at the financial matters it shows what a good businessman he is. He’s changed the format of the club, he’s brought in a fantastic manager and paid a lot of money for him, and that’s showing dividends now with pretty much the same squad that other managers had.
“He doesn’t want to be hit with a points deduction, he doesn’t want to be hit with any kind of fine either. It’s important that you set an example. Sometimes you don’t have to cross that line to be a successful side.
“The stadium is ours, it’s not longer the council’s – that’s a massive plus.
“What he’s done in such a short space of time is quite remarkable.”
United currently sit top of the Championship, holding a one point lead over second-placed West Brom with nine games to play.
As revealed by Football Insider earlier in the week, hopes are increasing that the EFL will be able to play the campaign to its completion, despite the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
