Celtic mainstay delivers verdict on 2017 bids from PL giants
Craig Gordon has admitted that that Celtic not selling him to Chelsea in January 2017 was a good thing as he would have missed out on being a member of the Invincibles.
The current Hoops number one was the subject of a bid of £3.5million this time last year from the English giants but Brendan Rodgers refused to entertain the offers from the Premier League giants.
The Celtic mainstay has now revealed that the memories he has made as being part of the Bhoys side which went on a 69 game unbeaten domestic run are far preferable to sitting on the Chelsea bench and getting limited game time.
“It was the last week of the window,” he said, as quoted by the Evening Times. “The bid wasn’t accepted, I stayed here. But at the same time, we were in the middle of a great season where it looked as if we were going to do something really special, and everyone felt an undefeated season was a possibility.
“To be able to look back and have that memory in my career is worth…I actually don’t think you could ever put a monetary value on that for however much you’d earn elsewhere or be part of any other team.
“To do that in Scotland with Celtic, it’s something that will be remembered forever.”
On Saturday Gordon and the rest of his team-mates finally returned from their winter break and were back in action in the Hoops’ 5-0 victory over Brechin in the Scottish Cup.
The goalkeeper was rarely involved as the Bhoys won comfortably thanks to goals from Forrest, Sinclair, Ntcham, Boyata and Edouard to move into the draw for the last sixteen of the tournament.
The games come thick and fast for the Scottish Premiership league leaders who are next in action on Tuesday night when they face a Glasgow derby against relegation threatened Partick Thistle at Firhill.
