‘Replays clearly show’ – PGMOL expert reveals why Man Utd goal vs Nottingham Forest should have been ruled out
Manchester United’s opener against Nottingham Forest should not have stood due to an incorrect decision in the build-up to the goal.
That is according to former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee Keith Hackett, who exclusively told Football Insider that replays clearly show Sean Dyche’s side were hard done by at the City Ground.
Amad Diallo scored an 81st-minute equaliser as Man United drew 2-2 with Forest, ending their run of three straight wins in the Premier League.
Casemiro put the Red Devils in front before Morgan Gibbs-White and Nicolo Savona turned the game on its head, with Diallo snatching a point for Ruben Amorim’s side with a sublime volley.

Casemiro’s goal should not have stood
Casemiro’s header, which opened the scoring at the City Ground, was a point of major controversy with Nottingham Forest adamant that the goal shouldn’t have stood.
The Brazilian rose highest to head home a Bruno Fernandes corner, powering the ball past Matz Sels in the Forest goal.
There was major contention over the awarding of the corner though, with home fans and players convinced the ball hadn’t gone over the dead-ball line.
Bryan Mbeumo whipped in a cross, which full-back Savona headed away, and the ball looked to be rolling out of play.
However, the Italian then raced after the ball and looked to have prevented it from crossing the line, but referee Darren England signalled for a corner, which United ended up capitalising on.
Keith Hackett reveals major refereeing error
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Hackett revealed that replays show Man United should not have been awarded the corner which resulted in Casemiro’s opener.
He said: “The ball was incorrectly ruled as out of play, and a corner kick was awarded to Manchester United.
“Replays show clearly that the ball was still in play, the whole of the ball has to be over the line, out of play.
“From the resulting corner kick, Manchester United scored.”
