Report: Arsenal bid for CL-winning striker, hopeful of cut-price deal (not Aubameyang)
Arsenal have submitted a £35million bid for Real Madrid and France striker Karim Benzema, according to a report.
Spanish tabloid Don Balon report that Arsene Wenger is splashing his cash following the departure of Alexis Sanchez, and Benzema’s poor run of form has left Real Madrid having to sell on the cheap.
Arsenal have been long time admirers of the former Lyon striker, who has battled injuries this season since being backed by Zinedine Zidane.
The Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is thought to be furious, as he tried to sell the French international in the Summer when his stock was higher.
Football Insider verdict:
Karim Benzema would be a steal at £35million if Aresnal can finalise a deal. The Frenchman has been prolific at times during his career, scoring over 220 goals at his two clubs. Benzema has won 22 major honours in his career, and brings with him a winning mentality that is in short supply at the Emirates. His physical style of play and natural goal scoring ability have helped him succeed in Europe, and there are no signs that he won’t adapt to the Premier League. He would join up with fellow France international striker Alexandre Lacazette, and would form an intimidating duo.
