Aston Villa are leading the race to sign Bury teenager Jacob Bedeau, according to a report.
The Bury Times claim that Manchester United and neighbours City are losing the battle to sign the highly-rated centre-back as Villa have already opened negotiations with a”substantial” bid.
It is said that the Bury chairman Stewart Day is expected to hold out for a sum in the seven-figure mark as both clubs are yet to reach an agreement for the 17-year-old.
The Shakers are currently 20th in the League One table, out of the relegation zone only on goal difference.
Bedeau, who has come through the ranks of the Greater Manchester club, has played seven league games this season.
It is said that the youngster is being monitored by a host of English clubs but Villa remain the early surprise front runners.
Football Insider verdict:
The 17-year-old is a player for the future and more than likely a player the Championship club don’t require at this moment in time. Adding Jacob Bedeau to the Villa Park ranks will perhaps lead him to the academy set up rather than first team football. It is all well and good signing up the future talents, but unfortunately for Villa, they require someone who can do the job at this moment in time. Additionally, it is hard to see where the highly-rated centre-back would fit in with the younger Villa players. Aside from the senior centre-backs in the squad, should Villa sign him then Bedeau would more than likely be behind academy product Kevin Toner in the Villa Park pecking order. Toner recently returned from a loan spell at League One Walsall and is yet to make the matchday squad this season.
In other Aston Villa transfer news, a French outlet have claimed that the club have received an offer for this first-team player but the club wants triple the offer made.
