Report: PL side wanted Celtic star in late January transfer deal
Crocked Celtic midfielder Patrick Roberts found himself as part of the deadline day transfer battle between Leicester City and Manchester City, as the champions-elect pursued the signature of Riyad Mahrez, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claims that Roberts was added as part of a £50million deal that would see Mahrez move to the Sky Blues while the Hoops midfielder switched to the former EPL winners.
However, The Mail’s sources claim that it was Leicester that wanted the player as part of the deal.
Roberts has been attracting plenty of attention since his loan arrival at Celtic Park in 2016 from the Manchester giants and his displays have been good enough to warrant the Foxes including him as part of the multi-million transfer triangle that went right to the deadline.
However, a thigh issue the English youngster incurred back in November against Motherwell in the SPL – his second of the season – has meant his season has largely been setback after setback and only at the start of December it materialised that the 20-year-old could be out of action for several months.
The midfielder was a key member of Brendan Rodgers’ title-winning side last year and scored 11 goals from 47 appearances in 2016/2017.
