Report: Celtic given emphatic answer in pursuit of highly-rated PL midfielder

Celtic have been dealt a massive blow in their pursuit of Manchester City’s Phil Foden, as the current Premier League leaders have ruled out the hot prospect leaving on loan, according to a report.

The Daily Mirror reports that Pep Guardiola is expected to start playing the midfielder in the new year as Manchester City still feature in several different competitions.

The Spaniard also believes that having the 17-year-old stay at the Eithad is the best option for his development as he can learn from the likes of David Silva.

The England U-17s World Cup winner is yet to feature in the Premier League this season but did make a cameo appearance in the Champions League against Feyenoord.

The news of how highly Guardiola rates the young midfielder is a bad sign for Celtic’s chances of signing him any time soon.

The Hoops reportedly tried to sign the star on transfer deadline-day in the summer, offering £1.5million.

Celtic look like they going to have to give up the chase of the highly-rated Foden and aim for other targets. Manchester City have sent a clear message by ruling out sending the player out on loan, and the Hoops would be wasting their time trying to change the Premier League leaders’ minds. It’s a disappointment for the Bhoys of course, but at least they have been informed ahead of January, giving them time to find another option. The 17-year-old has already managed to make a senior appearances for Manchester City this season, so the youngster isn’t going to put pressure on his club to loan him out, as it looks like he’ll get game time where he is.
