Chelsea 23-year-old makes emphatic decision as Euro club plots £36m swoop - reports

By Abigail Withey

Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi has decided that he does not want to leave Chelsea despite strong interest from Ligue 1 side Lille, according to a report.

The Evening Standard has revealed that the 23-year-old is not looking to join the European club even though they were reportedly plotting a bid worth in the region of £36million.

The newspaper claims on their website that the Belgian is keen to stay at Stamford Bridge this summer in order to prove himself to manager Antonio Conte.

It is understood that despite hardly featuring in the previous season and scoring an own goal against Tottenham last week, the young forward is still in the Chelsea manager’s plans for the 2017/18 campaign.

This report comes just a day after the Mirror revealed that Lille were readying a mega-money bid to give the Belgian a way of ending his difficult spell with the Premier League club.

Last season Batshuayi made just one start for the Blues but he looks likely to stay at the London club in order to increase his number of appearances and goals for the club.

Batshuayi joined Chelsea from Marseille during last summer’s transfer window in a deal worth £35million, but the forward managed just five goals in 20 Premier League appearances.

Football Insider Verdict

It is completely unsurprising that Batshuayi wishes to stay at Chelsea this summer, and Conte should see that his determination to prove himself at the club is a boost to him. The Belgian has already featured in the starting line-up twice this season in the Community Shield against Arsenal as well as Chelsea’s opening Premier League match against Burnley, and it looks as though he’s got a taste for it. His mistake against Tottenham could have been a lot worse if Marcos Alonso hadn’t scored the winning goal, so Batshuayi has taken that into consideration and instead looks focused on a comeback for the Blues. Conte can’t forget that the young forward scored the winning goal that secured their Premier League title at the end of last season, which shows he has the potential to succeed.
