Liverpool are not interested in signing RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner, according to a report.
The Liverpool Echo claims that Werner, 22, does not feature on Jurgen Klopp’s shopping list for the summer transfer window even though his team-mate Naby Keita will be bound for Anfield.
It is understood that Klopp is happy with his centre-forward options with him intending to fast-track Rhian Brewster to the first-team for the 2018/19 campaign despite the highly-rated teenager undergoing surgery on both his ankle and knee.
However in a major development, that does not seem like the case, even though the Germany international is one of the more highly-ranted forwards in Europe and has scored 18 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions this season.
Football Insider verdict
It is great to see that Klopp is willing to promote an exciting young English talent to the first-team rather than spend big on Werner. It also shows that Liverpool will probably invest more in their midfield and defence over the summer, rather than investing in an attack force that is pretty much on the brink of perfection. Liverpool need a new goalkeeper, centre-back, right-back and one or two quality central midfielders in the summer. They could definitely be contenders for the Premier League title next term by getting in top players for those positions. Selling Philippe Coutinho is now looking like a brilliant decision.
