Everton have held talks with European giants Barcelona over a potential deal regarding youngster Henry Onyekuru, according to a report.

Nigerian news outlet Today NG claims a source close to the 20-year-old stated that the Catalan club sent out one of their scouts to watch him in action on the weekend.

The source is quoted as saying: “Barcelona are in talks with Everton on a possible move for Henry (Onyekuru).”

The report also claims that Serie A champions Juventus are also one of the teams interested in the Everton attacker.

Onyekuru appears to be attracting interest from a number of top-flight clubs as Nigerian news outlet 90 Minutes Goal recently reported that fellow Premier League side Tottenham have approached the Merseyside club about his availability.

The youngster is currently enjoying a season-long loan spell with Belgian side Anderlecht where he has already contributed with eight goals so far in all competitions.

The Nigeria international only secured a permanent move to Goodison Park during the summer transfer window but he failed to receive a working permit to feature for the club.

Onyekuru’s current contract with the Premier League side expires in 2022.

It speaks volumes about the player that Spanish giants Barcelona and Italian champions Juventus are reportedly interested in snapping him up. Having only secured his signature in the summer, Everton must do everything within their power to keep him at the club as he is a player can certainly help them get the club on track to the owner’s ambition of challenging for the top spots in the future. Although it will be extremely difficult for Onyekuru to turn down a move to one of the biggest clubs in the world, staying in the Premier League will be better for his development as he is more likely to feature on a regular basis at Everton.
