Schneiderlin has endured a frustrating season under manager Jose Mourinho, making just eight appearances across all competitions.
The France international has featured just three times in the Premier League off the bench and has been frozen out in recent months.
He will now be looking to resurrect his career at Goodison Park after his 50-game stay with United.
Schneiderlin has proven himself in English football before and played 257 times for Southampton, enjoying promotion from League One all the way up to the Premier League.
Football Insider verdict:
Everton will be hoping that they can sign the Schneiderlin that proved to be one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League. The 27-year-old has endured a nightmare time at Old Trafford, but if anyone can rediscover his best form then it’s Koeman. The pair worked together at Southampton and Koeman is now looking to rebuild his team at Everton. Schneiderlin will give the Toffees a much-needed boost in midfield as they are without star player Idrissa Gueye during January, while he competes in the Africa Cup of Nations. Everton are also light of options in the central of midfield, meaning Schneiderlin can be expected to go straight into the starting line-up.
