Everton are ready to make a bargain bid of just £2million to snap up Den Haag defender Wilfried Kanon this summer amid a top flight transfer hunt, according to a report.
The Sun claim on their website that the Toffees are joined by La Liga trio Eibar, Villareal and Real Betis for the 24-year-old giant’s capture, the player himself said to be looking for a move to one of the big European leagues after impressing in the Netherlands.
The central enforcer has helped his side to sit ninth in the Dutch top tier, and it is reported that he has a mere £2million price tag slapped on his head, a fee which Sam Allardyce is willing to meet as he eyes up an mass change of the first team squad he took on from Ronald Koeman last year.
Since arriving in the Netherlands, the 6’2″ Kanon has made 71 appearances for Den Haag, while he also has 29 caps under his belt for the Ivory Coast.
Football Insider verdict
An overhaul of the defensive option at Goodison Park is a priority, with most of Allardyce’s options at the back entering the final stages of their careers. While experience is crucial, so is the physical ability to compete, and as the current players’ bodies wear on, they will struggle to keep pace with the Premier League. At 24, Kanon has a long way to go before even reaching his peak, and at just £2million, Everton can hardly go wrong. On one hand, he could a major success for a bargain price, and on the other, he would be an inexpensive failure who would no doubt be able to be shipped off for a similar price. A win-win either way.
