Report: Injured Tottenham star steps up recovery as Pochettino eyes imminent return
By Russell Edge
Tottenham star Erik Lamela will be stepping up his recovery from a long term injury layoff over the international break as Mauricio Pochettino eyes an imminent return, according to a report.
Football news website football.london claim that the Argentinian winger is set to be involved in more contact training sessions during the two week gap between league fixtures, as he nears the end of the recovery period from a hip injury which has kept him out of action for over a year.
It is stated that with many of the first team stars on international duty, Pochettino is set to work on the fitness of his fringe players, with the manager hopeful that Lamela will inform the backroom staff at Spurs that he is ready to return over the next fortnight.
Reportedly joining the versatile forward on the training ground will be several youth prospects from the Tottenham reserve squads, including goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman, who was on the substitute’s bench for the club’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Meanwhile it is said the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Hugo Lloris, Michel Vorm and Victor Wanyama will all be at the training centre over the coming weeks as they look to recover from their respective injuries, with the Belgian defender revealed to be using a compression boot to help him return quickly from his hamstring layoff.
