Report: Tottenham ready to beat Premier League rivals to World Cup-winning wonderkid

By Laura O’Leary

Tottenham are set to battle it out with Arsenal and Liverpool for the signature of Wolves’ Morgan Gibbs-White.

The Sun report that Liverpool are currently leading the race to sign him as they prepare a £5million bid, but Spurs and the Gunners are expected to step up their interest.

The 17-year-old has garnered a massive amount of attention after being a key member of England U-17s World Cup winning squad.

The midfielder’s contract is set to expire in 2019 at Wolves, but his current club cannot offer him a new deal until he turns 18 on January 27.

The hot prospect is yet to feature for Wolves’ first team this season, instead making one appearance in the Premier League 2 for Wolves U-23s.

However, the centre midfielder was given a few opportunities with the first team last season.

Gibbs-White played seven games in the Championship and featured against Stoke City in the FA Cup last season.

The midfielder did not manage to grab a goal or an assist in any of those eight appearances.

Football Insider Verdict

Morgan Gibbs-White’s signature was always going to be in high demand after impressing for England at the U-17s World Cup, especially as he was one of the only members of the squad based at a non Premier League club. A move might not be the best for his first team chances, with Wolves more likely to utilise him sooner. There is also the fact that it might not be long before Wolves are a Premier League club seeing as they currently lead the way in the Championship. However, an opportunity to work with Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham would be a chance worth taking, seeing as the manager has gained a great reputation for developing youth.
