Report: Liverpool set to pounce for midfield powerhouse after big-money bid rejected
Liverpool are plotting a move for Nice’s Jean Michael Seri after Barcelona failed to capture the player’s signature in the summer, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claims that Liverpool, along with Manchester City, have been keeping an eye on the player’s performances this season ahead of a potential move for the midfielder.
The same reports states that Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the midfielder, but the player is “excited” by the prospect of a move to England in January or the summer.
Barcelona missed out on signing the player in the summer after having a formal £35.2million bid rejected by Nice, which angered Seri according to the report.
Football Insider Verdict
The midfielder seems an ideal signing for Liverpool whether it’s in January or the summer, as he adds a defensive presence to the midfield. The Reds’ defensive record is what currently lets them down, as they score goals for fun. If they were able to sign Seri ahead of Barcelona and Manchester City, it would be a huge improvement to the team. The additional defensive cover coming from midfield could help make Liverpool title contenders next season. Also if Liverpool do end up losing contract rebel Emre Can, they going to be in need of a replacement and Seri would soon make the club forget about Can if he settles quickly.
