Report: Newcastle eye 23-year-old winger, competition from PL rivals
By Derek Smithson
Newcastle are interested in signing Anderlecht winger Frank Acheampong, according to a report.
Belgian outlet DH claim that the Magpies are in the race for the 23-year-old, but face competition from Premier League duo Bournemouth and Watford for his signature.
It is understood that Hull were also in the running for the Ghana international, but their relegation to the Championship will see them miss out.
Acheampong has revealed that he has had contact from English clubs about a potential summer move and admitted playing in the Premier League appeals to him.
“It’s everybody’s dream to play in the English Premier League,” he told BBC Sport. “We are just working on it and let’s pray that I get what I want. It’s my dream, it’s my first priority.

“A few clubs in England have been in touch but I cannot say anything right now.”
Acheampong has recently helped Anderlecht win the league title in Belgium and was an ever-present in the starting XI.
The versatile ace is a left winger by trade, but has also been deployed as a left-back this season.
He has made 47 appearances across all competitions this term, scoring six goals and supplying five assists in return.
Football Insider verdict:
Newcastle are going to need a few additions to their squad as they brace themselves for a Premier League return and manager Rafael Benitez is expected to have a large transfer kitty. They do already have a squad that can be competitive in the top flight, but fans will be hoping they can achieve a mid-table finish. Acheampong has expressed his desire to play in England and has proven himself to be a strong player in Belgium. His versatility down the left flank would make him a useful addition at St James’ Park, but Newcastle may be better serve going for proven players.
In other Newcastle transfer news, they are receiving strong interest in defender Grant Hanley.
