Report: Newcastle to demote four players in relegation battle

By North-east correspondent Harry Sykes

Newcastle are ready to sideline their inexperienced stars during the team’s relegation battle, according to the Mirror.

In-form Aleksandar Mitrovic, Ayoze Perez and Jamaal Lascelles were all omitted from the starting X1 in last Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Norwich, while Rolando Aaarons was also ignored.
The Mirror report that Rafael Benitez will continue to overlook the youthful quartet in the coming matches.
Mitrovic, 21, was surprisingly left on the bench against Norwich despite scoring a late equaliser against Sunderland in the previous game.
He provided further evidence of his potency by scoring both of Newcastle’s goals after being sent on in the second half.
Perez, 22, who has been one of the team’s brighter players this season, was also ignored, as was Lascelles, 21, and Aarons, 20.
Benitez is said by the Mirror to have sat the players down individually and told them that he will trust in experience in a bid to haul the team out of relegation trouble.
Newcastle are 19th in the Premier League with just seven matches of the season remaining and face an uphill battle to retain their top-flight status.
They slipped six points behind relegation rivals Norwich in the wake of last Saturday’s thrilling clash at Carrow Road.
In other Newcastle news, Alan Shearer has given his verdict on whether the team will maintain their Premier League status.
