Report: Huge blow for Leeds as PL club closing in on deal for defender

By Amir Mir

West Brom are close to signing Leeds defender Charlie Taylor, according to a report.

The Sun claim the Premier League outfit are keen to add to their defensive line as Whites manager Garry Monk is hoping to keep his star player.

The 23-year-old has missed the last two games for Monk’s side because of an Achilles injury as teammate Gaetano Berardi has deputised during the win at Preston and draw at Aston Villa.

It is said Taylor has been on the radar of Baggies manager Tony Pullis, who is keen on adding the left-back for the second half of the Premier League campaign, and that he is now “edging towards thrashing out a deal”.

Taylor is highly regarded at Elland Road having come through the ranks of the Championship club who are currently sitting in a play-off spot.

He has played 25 Championship and EFL Cup games for the Yorkshire outfit this season, providing three assists.

If Taylor were to sign for the Midlands club then he would join a team that is sitting in eighth place in the top flight with 26 points from 19 games.

Football Insider verdict:

Charlie Taylor would be making a huge mistake if he were to sign for West Brom during the January transfer window. The youngster should stay at Elland Road and help his manager Garry Monk guide the Whites to the Premier League. There is no guarantee that Taylor will get regular first-team football at the Hawthorns, but that will be guaranteed at Elland Road. Not only that, despite the Whites being in the Championship, they are still a more ambitious club than the Baggies. Monk’s side simply need to earn promotion, so they can then demonstrate their power as a big club.
