Report reveals exciting Benitez plans for £150m Newcastle transfer budget

Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez will be looking to bring a player in the ilk of David Silva to the club if he is handed a £150million transfer budget this January, according to a report.
The Chronicle claim on their website that sources close to potential investor Amanda Staveley, who is fronting PCP Capital Partners’ takeover bid for the club, say that the Spanish manager would be handed between £100million to £150million to make use of in the winter window.
The report states that Benitez has had two transfer shortlists drawn up as a result of the ongoing takeover discussions; one working on the current budget available and one which takes into account a boost in investment.
The newspaper claim that one type of player which will be targeted will be a playmaker like Manchester City’s Silva, who played under Benitez as a teenager at Valencia.
Such a player would bring in a creativity and footballing intelligence which the manager reportedly feels is currently lacking in the Newcastle squad.

Benitez is also said to want to invest capital into the club’s academy, training ground and the scouting department, all of which will be exciting developments for Newcastle’s future.
However is is reported that the manager will remain cautious and savvy in his deals, not splashing the cash in fear of unbalancing the current morale which he has built on Tyneside.
