Tottenham are ready to replace defender Kevin Wimmer with Hull City centre-back Harry Maguire, according to a report.
The Daily Star claim that Spurs are leading the race to sign Maguire, who was relegated from the Premier League with his Hull side last Sunday.
It is said that the Londoners see the 24-year-old as a replacement for Wimmer, who is expected to leave White Hart Lane when the transfer window opens in the coming weeks.
Austria international Wimmer has not featured for his side in the league since the 4-0 win at home to Stoke in February.
He has put in a number of questionable performances this term, including during the 2-2 draw against Manchester City in January where he was taken off at half-time.
On the other hand, Maguire is seen as a highly-rated prospect despite his side suffering relegation into the second tier.
It is said that Maguire is attracting plenty of interest from the likes Everton, West Brom, Southampton, West Ham and Newcastle.
The former Sheffield United player has represented his side on 29 occasions this season, with his contract at Hull due to expire in 2018.
Football Insider verdict:
Pochettino needs to add quality to his squad and Wimmer clearly isn’t a player that fits into his plans. After showing glimpses of talent, the German now finds himself struggling to even earn any minutes for his side. A summer move is the best option for both the player and the club as Pochettino plans for another Champions League campaign. The Argentine needs players that can challenge the highly-rated duo of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen for a first team spot if he wants his team to go to the next level.
