Tottenham are ready to poach Premier League giants Manchester United for left back Luke Shaw if the Red Devils manage to secure the signing of Spurs’ top target Ryan Sessegnon, according to a report.
The Guardian claim on their website that Jose Mourinho’s side are ready to make an initial bid of £25million for the 17-year-old Fulham wing back, who is said to have been on Tottenham’s radar for months, with the Lilywhites having seen a bid of the same amount turned down in August as claimed by the Telegraph.
It is stated that while Spurs will reignite their interest in January were United to make a move, if Mauricio Pochettino is unsuccessful then he is keen on snapping up the Red Devils’ Luke Shaw, who is set to be allowed to leave Old Trafford to make space for the youngster.
The 22-year-old England international has just five appearances to his name this season, having fallen out of favour under Mourinho, while Sessegnon has turned out 24 times across all competitions for Fulham.
Football Insider verdict
While Sessegnon has clearly been Tottenham’s favoured transfer target for the left back slot, going up against Manchester United could end in disappointment, with the Red Devils’ financial clout much more significant than Spurs’. As such, they ought to make the most of the situation, and Shaw could well be available for a fraction of the price if the 17-year-old Fulham star arrives at Old Trafford. Shaw is going to be determined to prove himself and has demonstrated the talent needed to succeed. Could Pochettino be the one to bring the best out of him? If his record with other England youngsters is anything to go by, he could become a star performer for both club and country.
