Tottenham are eyeing up a swoop for Coventry City’s 18-year-old midfielder Tom Bayliss, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claim on their website that Spurs, as well as Championship side Derby County, are both keen on securing a deal for the English central starlet, who has become a revelation in the League Two club’s midfield this season.
Having made his debut for the club back in November, during Coventry’s EFL Trophy win over West Brom’s under-23s, he has gone on to make seven appearances for the club, including playing a starring role during their shock FA Cup victory over Premier League opponents Stoke City on Saturday.
It is said that Tottenham and Derby have been impressed with his passing ability and pace in the centre of the park, with the youngster netting his first senior goal in what was his first ever league appearance.
Football Insider verdict
Spurs have previous with capturing a young midfield talent from the lower leagues and turning him into a world star, so maybe they see the same prospect in Bayliss. However, whether the Coventry man has what it takes to follow in Dele Alli’s footsteps is another matter, with just seven senior appearances to his name. He is not likely to break into the first team set up at Derby, let alone at Spurs, and he is definitely one for the future. If Mauricio Pochettino really is keen, then perhaps he could sign the 18-year-old up and leave him at loan with Coventry to develop, as they did will Alli after securing his signature from MK Dons.
In other Tottenham transfer news, the club have been handed a major boost in keeping hold of one of their top stars.
