The agent of Achraf Lazaar has met up with Palermo to discuss the immediate future of the defender, according to a report.

Italian football news outlet Tutto Mercato Web claim that 24-year-old full-back has many admirers, which includes Newcastle and Rafa Benitez and that his future is currently being discussed at his Serie A club.

It is claimed that the representative of the left-back has met up with Palermo’s sporting director Daniele Faggiano in Milan.

Lazaar can play in defence and on the left side of midfield, and his versatility is said to be a major part of his game.

He has less than 12 months remaining on his Rosanero deal and could be picked up at a lower fee than Palermo would want.

The 16-time capped international was integral to Palermo’s Serie A campaign last season, making 30 domestic appearances for Davide Ballardini’s side.

The left-back position has proven to be a problem for the north east club with Paul Dummett, Ciaran Clark and Jesus Gamez all occupying the role in the early stages of the new campaign.

Newcastle have outspent all of their Championship rivals in this transfer window by recruiting a host of Premier League players, with pair Dwight Gayle and Matt Ritchie costing a combined £22million.

They picked up their second league win of the season on Saturday when they beat Bristol City 2-1 and they travel to Brighton for a vial clash at the weekend.

In other Newcastle transfer news, Greek champions Olympiacos have entered discussions to sign fringe player Cheick Tiote.
