Crystal Palace midfielder James McArthur has admitted he’d be happy to end his career with the Premier League side after speculation linked with a return to Scottish football as part of Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox revolution.
The Scottish Sun claimed that the Light Blues wanted to add the midfielder to Gerrard’s squad over the summer although the midfielder has poured cold water on the links by saying he wants to stay at Palace.
McArthur admitted that he wasn’t “bothered” about the links with a move away but insisted he was happy with the Eagles.
“I’m not bothered [about the speculation],” McArthur said, as quoted by London News Online.
“I’m a Palace player, I love it here. I want to stay here. I’d love to finish my career here. I love it.”
Football Insider verdict:
If McArthur is happy at Palace then so be it. Rangers need to be bringing players in who are desperate to be at the club and help them end Celtic’s domination of Scottish football. Although McArthur would be a great addition to the Gers’ midfield, if he doesn’t want to be at Ibrox then there’s no point pursuing a move. Some of the other names who have been mentioned so far as potential targets for the Gers would perhaps be a bit more exciting for fans anyway. When Gerrard officially takes the reins on June 1st then the Light Blues need to kick on with their recruitment and try have as much of their squad in place before pre-season gets underway as possible. The Gers get into competitive action on July 12th so there isn’t a massive amount of time for the Ibrox giants to get all the pieces in place and have a squad ready for the first qualifying round of the Europa League. McArthur would’ve been a nice addition to that but he’d rather stay with Palace.
In other Rangers transfer news, the club are in hot pursuit of a 6’4″ colossus who could be signing of the season.
