Revealed: Barcelona offer Ilkay Gundogan ‘huge’ deal to finalise Man City move – sources

Man City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is set to be handed a pay rise if he joins Barcelona this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 32-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season, and Barcelona have been in contact over a free transfer at the end of the season.

The Spanish giants are struggling financially and have turned to the free agent market for summer signings, but they are still willing to offer Gundogan a pay rise on his current City deal to lure him to Camp Nou.

Football Insider sources revealed on Friday (14 April) that Gundogan is now expected to join Barcelona on a free transfer this summer.

Gundogan is reportedly earning around £140,000-per-week at the Etihad Stadium after signing his latest deal with the club in 2019.

It is understood that Barcelona’s proposal is an extremely lucrative one, focused on “huge” bonuses and incentives within the contract to increase Gundogan’s earnings.

Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring Gundogan’s situation at City, but Barcelona remain firm favourites to sign him this summer.

Gundogan is into his seventh year at City after joining the club in 2016 as Pep Guardiola’s first signing as manager.

He remains a key part of Guardiola’s plans, appearing 40 times for City this season across all competitions and scoring five goals.

Overall, Gundogan has made 293 appearances for the club, picking up four Premier League titles, four EFL Cups and an FA Cup winners’ medal in the process.
